Toyota first electric vehicle Europe production, Toyota Czech plant EV investment details

The automaker revealed plans to invest €680 million or $796 million to expand its Czech facility, which will include a new battery assembly plant. The Czech government is also contributing up to €64 million to support the project, highlighting the importance of this initiative for the region’s economy.

For the Czech Republic, where the auto industry accounts for 10% of GDP, this investment is crucial. Prime Minister Petr Fiala emphasized that Toyota’s commitment helps ensure the long term sustainability of car manufacturing in the country.

While Toyota has been more cautious about EVs compared to rivals, its focus on hybrids has paid off especially in markets like the U.S.A. However, the company is now accelerating its electric plans. Earlier this year, Toyota announced it will launch nine fully electric models in Europe by 2026 under both the Toyota and Lexus brands.

The Kolin plant currently produces models like the Aygo X and Yaris Hybrid, with an annual capacity of 220,000 vehicles. The addition of EV production will further solidify Toyota’s presence in Europe and support the region’s green transition.
