Why And How To Stop Autoplay on Facebook, Instagram, X, Bluesky And Threads?

1. Facebook

1. Click on your profile picture (top right on desktop, bottom bar on mobile).
2. Go to Settings and Privacy ➜ Preferences ➜ Media.
3. Under Video Playback, choose “Never” for both Feed and Stories.

2. Instagram

Instagram doesn’t have a full “off” switch, but you can reduce data usage. To do that...

1. Tap your profile picture from bottom right.
2. Tap the three line menu (top right) ➜ Settings and activity ➜ Your app and media.
3. Select Media quality and turn on “Use less cellular data”.

This won’t stop autoplay completely, but it helps when you are not on Wi-Fi.

3. X (Twitter)

For better control:

1. Go to Settings and privacy (via your profile pic or sidebar).
2. Select Accessibility, display, and languages ➜ Data usage.
3. Turn off “Video autoplay”.

For extra caution, go back to Settings and privacy ➜ Display and sound and toggle off “Media previews”.

4. Bluesky

Bluesky makes it easy:

1. Tap the three line menu (top left on mobile, sidebar on desktop).
2. Go to Settings ➜ Content and media.
3. Toggle off “Autoplay videos and GIFs”.

5. Threads

Here, Bad news Threads users. Threads still doesn’t allow you to turn off autoplay. Maybe its coming in a future update.
