WhatsApp User Data Hacked And Leaked | HOW?

Popular messaging service WhatsApp, owned by social tech giant META (Facebook's parent company), has had user data stolen. Cybercriminals have stolen the personal information of about 500 million WhatsApp users in 84 countries. Along with this, hackers have openly advertised on their online forums for selling this information.

WhatsApp User Data Hacked and Leaked

According to a report of Cybercrime News, this important information was found while investigating some samples found online. A 'hacking community forum' claimed a few days ago that they have the personal information of about 500 million WhatsApp users in different countries. That information was being openly sold in Online Dark Web.

More than 200 million people around the world use WhatsApp every day. Therefore, if the hacker's claims of this hacking are true, about 25 percent of all WhatsApp users worldwide may be at risk of data theft.

Cybercriminals have the personal phone numbers of WhatsApp users in 84 hacked countries. In their huge database, there are...

➜ 3 crore 5 million users in Italy.
➜ 3 crore 2 million in the United States.
➜ 2 crore 9 million in Saudi Arabia.
➜ 1 crore in Russia.
➜ 1 crore 10 million in the United Kingdom, and
➜ 4 million in Bangladesh.

WhatsApp Data Leak Information

The META company has no specific information on how cybercriminals gained access to WhatsApp's heavily secured servers. Cyber analysts fear that leaked phone numbers could be used to send spam SMS or e-mails as well as conduct phishing attacks.

Not only that, but the hacker members can also take control of WhatsApp user accounts through the hacked information. Apart from this, it is believed that WhatsApp users can be secretly monitored on other activities including sharing of various information.

So all WhatsApp users are warned not to enter any link without being sure. Avoid joining unknown groups. Also do not share any PIN or OTP with others over chat or online.
