Barcelona Signs Brazil's "New Ronaldo" on a 7-Year Contract. Who Is He?

Over the past few days, certain events had strongly hinted at it. Only the official announcement was pending. Today, it finally came from Barcelona. The Spanish club has revealed that they are recruiting 18-year-old Brazilian prodigy Roque as part of their team. Vitor Roque currently plays for Athletico Paranaense, and Barcelona has reached an agreement with them regarding this transfer.

The announcement was made through a press release on Barcelona's official website, stating that Roque will join Barcelona for the 2024-25 season. The agreement between the two parties will expire in seven years, in 2031. However, if anyone wants to buy Roque before that, they will have to pay a release clause of 50 million euros.

Following the official announcement, Barcelona's Twitter page released a video statement from Vitor Roque. In a 10-second video message, the Brazilian, known as Tigrinho, expressed his excitement to join Barcelona and fulfill his dream. He said, "Culers, I'm very happy to be officially linked with Barcelona. My dream has come true. Tigrinho is coming to Barcelona. See you soon. Let's move forward, Barcelona."

Barcelona has not disclosed the financial details of Roque's release clause or any information regarding fees or salaries. According to ESPN, Barcelona will spend 40 million dollars to secure Roque's transfer.

Vitor Roque will be the third signing for Barcelona in the upcoming season. Previously, he had caught the attention of Athletic Club's manager, Inio Martínez, as he moved from Manchester City to Elche and played as a free player.

Barcelona has been keeping an eye on Roque since his time with Paranaense's senior and Brazil's youth teams. The premier South American club football competition, the Copa Libertadores, was won by his team, Paranaense, the previous year.

This year, Vitor Roque led Brazil to victory in the Under-20 South American Championship, where he emerged as the top goal scorer.

Although primarily a center forward, Roque can also play on the wings. So far, he has scored 22 goals in 65 matches for Paranaense. A few days ago, Barcelona President Joan Laporta was asked about Roque's desired addition to the club. In response to Mundo Deportivo's question, Laporta said, "We want goals. He has his own style. He can't be compared to Ronaldo or Romario. He is a player whose two feet inside the box make him potentially dangerous.
