TikTok Tests Snapchat-Style Streaks in DMs. The Details

TikTok seems to be borrowing a page from Snapchat's playbook by testing out streaks in direct messages for some of its users. According to TechCrunch website, the platform is experimenting with this new feature in some select markets.

What is a TikTok streak?

Here's how it works: if you exchange DMs with someone for three consecutive days, a streak badge will show up next to their name in your message tab. But be warned, your streak will vanish if there's no response within 24 hours. To keep users engaged, TikTok is even sending reminders to maintain those streaks.

Some folks have taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their puzzlement over this new addition. The goal behind streaks, we guess, is to boost user interaction and keep the conversation flowing beyond just scrolling through videos.

In other news, TikTok is also experimenting with hour-long video uploads, hinting at a move to compete more directly with YouTube.
